Job Title: Part-Time Coffee Roaster
Location: South Austin, TX
Expected Hours: 20-25 hrs/week
Current Schedule (flexible based on business need):
Monday 8-12, Tuesday & Thursday 8-2, Friday 12-4
Compensation: Starting wage $17/hr, with a performance and compensation review at 3 months
About Rising Tide Roast Collab:
Rising Tide Roast Collab is a women-owned roasting and production hub in South Austin that helps coffee businesses bring their visions to life. By joining our team, you’ll be supporting dozens of local coffee brands and helping serve great coffee to communities all across the nation.
The Position:
As a Production Roaster, you will be responsible for completing daily roasting tasks for our wholesale and key accounts. You’ll translate roast profiles into consistent output, maintain the roaster and equipment, and uphold quality and safety standards. You’ll work closely with the Production Manager and the rest of the RTRC team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Core Responsibilities:
- Roast green coffee according to the daily schedule and agreed profiles, using Cropster and our Diedrich CR-25 roaster
- Monitor and adjust roast variables to achieve consistency across batches
- Maintain logs, records, and roast data (in Cropster)
- Blend coffees and weigh and manage carryover
- Perform daily and periodic maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of the roaster(s) and roasting environment
- Keep the roastery clean, organized, and compliant with safety & SOPs
- Perform QC with the Director of Coffee
- Adhere to safety protocols and ensure safe operation of equipment
- Collaborate with the production team to create quality and consistent coffee for our customers
Qualifications:
- Prior production roasting experience required, experience on a Diedrich or similar roaster preferred
- Detail oriented; able to attend to the intricacies of blend requirements and roast profiles
- Efficient; able to get work done quickly and correctly
- Ready and willing to dive deep into roasting knowledge
- Communicative: if something goes wrong, let’s talk about it!
- Self-motivated, dependable, efficient, and able to manage workflow with minimal supervision
- Positive attitude, kind spirit, and a willingness to learn and grow in a collaborative environment
- Physically able to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long shifts, and move around in a manufacturing environment
Pay and Perks:
- Starting wage $17/hr, with a performance and compensation review at 3 months
- Pro rata PTO begins accruing after 90 days
