We’ve created a three-part class series to guide you from curious coffee lover to confident roaster.

From sharpening your palate to learning roast theory, each session builds on the last in an engaging, approachable way. Come ready to taste, experiment, and roast. We keep it hands-on, supportive, and seriously fun.

1. Sensory Development Training —  2 hours - $45

Part 1 of our 3 Part Roaster Class Series

In collaboration with Barista Friend, our Sensory Development Class jumpstarts your journey with a structured deep dive into the building blocks of coffee flavor. We'll analyze sweetness, acidity, and mouthfeel using sensory exercises and tools used by the top coffee tasters in the world, and then apply that knowledge in a guided cupping session. Expect to smell, slurp, and surprise your senses!

This class utilizes:

  • Le Nez du Café / Scentone aroma kits

  • Food-grade acids

  • Coffee Taster’s Flavor Wheel

  • World Coffee Research Sensory Lexicon

  • SCA cupping protocol

Whether you’re brand new to coffee or already roast-curious, this class gives you the grounding you need to taste with intention.

Offered monthly on: Fridays 1/23, 2/20, 3/6, 4/17, 5/15, 6/12 (9 - 11AM)

2. Roaster School 101 — 4 hours - $350

Part 2 of our 3 Part Roaster School Series

Roaster School 101 is a beginner-friendly, hands-on roasting workshop designed to demystify the process of turning green beans into something beautiful (and brown).

We’ll cover the fundamentals and then some, including:

  • Roasting machine anatomy

  • How green coffee variables (origin, altitude, etc.) affect your approach

  • Using machine controls to follow a roast recipe

  • Digital data logging

  • Roast phases and degree of roast

  • Evaluating roasts through cupping

You’ll get supervised hands-on time roasting on our Arc 800 and go home with beans that you roasted. Expect to leave with confidence, practical skills, and a brand-new appreciation for what happens behind every great cup of coffee.

Offered On: 2/1, 2/27, 4/19, 5/22

3. Roaster School 201 — 4 hours - $350

Ready to level up? This advanced workshop is designed for anyone who has taken Roaster School 101 or has some roasting experience under their belt.

Roaster School 201 takes you deeper into the art and science of profile roasting - the art of creating and manipulating roast recipes to achieve desired flavor outcomes. You’ll learn how to:

  • Define and apply the practice of profile roasting

  • Identify and manage variables that might affect your roast

  • Create, alter, and document your profiles

  • Evaluate your roasts through cupping, using the sensory experience to guide your future roast modulations

Through hands-on roasting time on the Arc 800 and a guided cupping session, you’ll gain an understanding of how to alter roast profiles to obtain desired levels of acidity, sweetness, body, and balance. You’ll go home with newfound knowledge and a set of roasted beans to taste and evaluate.

Offered On: 3/29, 6/28
